Five Vintage Items I Love to Find

If you’ve been around here a while, or even if you’re new (Hello, and welcome!), you know that the main ingredient to my recipe for a layered, soulful home is using vintage items to bring a sense of character and depth to spaces I design. There’s an art to sourcing vintage, and it requires being vigilant, persistent, and always open to what you may find and where. Sometimes, I’m “on the hunt” for a particular item, but my best finds usually happen when I’m casually shopping for things to keep on hand for current or future projects, and there’s a handful of items I’m drawn to over and over again.

Here’s my list of five vintage items I love to find:

01. Pottery

I found these large-ish pots in Mexico when I lived in my first apartment, and I still love buying pottery! Whether it’s small for stacking and styling, for plants, or large for impact, I always keep an eye out for interesting pottery.

02. Art and Mirrors

I keep a handy stash of collected art and mirrors to use as place fillers for projects and in my own home. Smallish pieces that can be hung or propped are often my faves.

03. Chairs

I’ll admit, chairs are my weakness. I pick them up when I love the material, the shape, the wear (in the case of leather). It may or may not have become a storage issue, but I’ll never go against my claim that a good chair can make a design!

04. Rugs

Rugs are one of those things that are sometimes hard to find when you need a particular size or color - or at least, that’s how I justify my rug habit! Since age and wear are appealing to me, I always remember to look DOWN when shopping - chances are, I’m standing on a perfectly cool rug!

05. Baskets

I love baskets for the instant texture they lend. They are great for storage, but also can be used as art for added dimension. In many cases, vintage baskets are handmade, and I love the inherent story behind the basketweaver. Basically, baskets are GOOD!
