Guest Curator: Capital Artist Collective

I was delighted when Capital Artist Collective recently asked me to curate works from their featured artists to coordinate with some of the moodboards I’ve created. The Artist Collective is an organization committed to providing a venue for local artists to present their work. The group features affordable, original art, and who’s mission has a charitable component: 5% of the proceeds from the sale of the art goes to local charities. The Capital Artist Collective is based out of Washington DC.

Although not formally educated about art, I adore it! When we design our client’s homes, art selection and placement are always large considerations: the right piece of art can complete a space! On a more personal note, art has played a large role in how my family captures memories of travels and experiences. I particularly love simple sketches, whimsical folk art, and moody landscapes, but there’s no way I could pick a favorite artist or style!

See a few snippets from the Guest Curator series - perhaps there’s a piece of art that will make it to your holiday Wish List!

The floral, sculpted series by John Matthew Moore are beautiful examples of the power of texture. The detail on the flowers draws you in. These are meant to be appreciated up close and personal. I’d do acrylic box frames to emphasize the airiness of the piece.

I love December Dusk by Christen Yates because of the way it draws me in. I can feel the cold air, the smell of the wheat fields. It’s a very transportative piece.

I love that the palette of Jumble by Sarah Trundle compliments the calm and neutral elements of the moodboard, but with the shots of pink, green and yellow, resists any rules.  It would be a welcome unexpectedness in a space.

The blue abstracts by Lauren Adams have a wonderful dynamic.  The freshness of the work feels like a great contrast to the more traditional elements in the moodboard.
